Unit Three: The Search for Justice
As people experience challenging situations, they respond according to the influences in their own lives (relationships, social media, peer pressure, experiences). When viewpoints differ, often times conflict occurs. People need to learn tolerance as well as how to persevere in a diverse society.
Essential Questions for this unit: **
1) How does labeling/stereotyping influence how we look at and understand the world?
2) How do people who have been through traumatic events cope with challenges in their lives?
** These three questions will be the impetus of instruction for this unit, but classroom instruction will not be limited to only these three questions. The “essential question” highlights the usefulness, the relevance, and the greater benefit of a unit. It is often the “so what?” question about material covered. It should be answerable, at least to some degree, by the end of the unit, but it should also have more than one possible answer. It should prompt intellectual exploration by generating other questions.
